9/23/2020 - Canadian County Sheriff Chris West announced earlier this summer that he was forming a Sheriff’s Posse, and developed a link on his office website to take applications.  Within the first 24 hours his office received over 500 online applications, many of which lived outside of Canadian County, and some from people even outside of Oklahoma.  Since that time, West and his staff have worked through the applications, trimming it down to only Canadian County residents.  Those people were recently sent an Email from the sheriff’s office containing a registration link to attend one of five Citizen Posse orientation training sessions.

9/18/2020 - The Canadian County Sheriff's Office was proud to host the FBI-LEEDA Command Leadership Institute September 14-18, 2020. Officers from numerous agencies attended the training. Those attending from the Sheriff's Office were Communications Supervisor Cyndie Bowers, Lt. Kevin Johnson and Major Ross Reuter. The FBI-LEEDA Command Leadership Institute is a dynamic, intensive and challenging 4 1/2-day program specifically and uniquely designed to prepare law enforcement leaders for command level positions. This week Major Ross Reuter completed the "trilogy" of the FBI-LEEDA classes. The Canadian County Sheriff's Office is set to host the FBI-LEEDA Executive Leadership Institute November 2-6, 2020.

8/24/2020 - On Friday August 21, 2020 investigators of the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jack Reed, 39, of Piedmont for possession of child pornography. A tip was referred to Canadian County Sheriff’s Office by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation’s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit regarding Reed possessing contraband images of children. This tip originated from Dropbox administrators when they conducted an audit of Reed’s account and found over 30 images and videos of child pornography. The images and videos were of children both male and female under the ages of 10 engaged in sexual abuse with adults.

8/21/2020 - Canadian County Sheriff’s Deputies and a former Detention Officer were recognized by the Oklahoma Sheriffs & Peace Officers Association. The men received award’s at the OSPOA’s annual training conference for acts of heroism. The OSPOA conference and awards banquet was conducted in Shawnee at the Fire Lake Grand Casino and Resort Hotel.

8/17/2020 - On August 15, 2020 investigators with the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office arrested James Visotski, a 35-year-old truck driver from Stuart, Oklahoma, for attempting to pick up a fourteen-year-old female at the Flying J truck stop in Canadian County for the purposes of having sexual intercourse.  The investigation began in May, 2020 when Visotski reached out on social media to an undercover deputy, believing she was a fourteen-year-old female living in Canadian County.  Visotski developed dialogue with the girl,  and then made and carried out plans to travel to Canadian County and pick up the under aged girl.  Visotski’s intentions were to take the girl on a three month cross country road trip, where he could have sex with the under aged female all across the country.

8/12/2020 - On Monday August 10, 2020 investigators with the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jeremy Weimer, 37, of El Reno on Possession of Child Pornography.  The Sheriff’s Office investigation began after the case was referred to them by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation’s Internet Crimes against Children (ICAC) unit.  The information from OSBI indicated Weimer was in the possession of illegal images of children, and the information originated from Microsoft’s OneDrive administrators; after they conducted an audit of Weimer’s account and discovered a nude image of a female child approximately 7 years of age. (click on title for more)

7/24/2020 - Investigators with the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office arrested Charles Guess, 37 former Macomb firefighter from Noble, Oklahoma, on July 24, 2020 for sexual communication with a minor in Canadian County.  Guess instead was communicating with an undercover Sheriff's Investigator using a popular social media website.

7/24/2020 - The Canadian County Sheriff's Office was proud to host the FBI-LEEDA Supervisor Leadership Institute June 22-26, 2020.  Officers from numerous agencies attended the training.  Those attending from the Sheriff's Office were Captain Adam Flowers, Lt. Jeremy Johnson and Lt. Aaron McCaslin. The FBI-LEEDA Supervisor Leadership Institute is a cutting edge 4 1/2-day program built especially for first-line supervisors and middle managers with the goal of enhancing their leadership competencies. The Supervisor Leadership Institute faculty members are senior law enforcement leaders who are committed to passing on their lessons learned. The Canadian County Sheriff's Office is set to host the FBI-LEEDA Command Leadership Institute September 14-18, 2020 and the FBI-LEEDA Executive Leadership Institute November 2-6, 2020.

MAN ARRESTED FOR LEWD ACTS WITH CHILD UNDER 16

7/15/2020 - On July 14, 2020 Investigators with the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office arrested Michael Brooks, a 25-year-old male of El Reno Oklahoma on the charges of forcible sodomy and lewd acts with a child under the age of 16.  The investigation began after the victim’s mother called the sheriff’s office on July 10, 2020 to report the crimes.  After the call from the mother, the sheriff’s office received additional calls from people who were concerned the child was being sexually abused by another individual residing in the home.  These reports came from school officials and other people in the community who were concerned about the child’s welfare.

Wheatland Resident Arrested for Soliciting

5/26/2020 - Investigators with the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office arrested Mickey Raper, 45, of Wheatland Oklahoma, on Thursday, May 21, 2020 after he began an illegal and graphic sexual social media and texting relationship with a 14-year-old female.  While Raper believed he was communicating with an under-aged Canadian County minor, he was instead communicating with an undercover Canadian County Sheriff's Deputy using an undercover profile on a popular social media website.


Sheriff’s Retired Drug Dog passes

5/22/2020 - Members of the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office assembled on Thursday, May 21st to honor the memory and service of K9 Deputy, “Gunner.” Gunner was 12 1/2 years old at the time of his death and served the Sheriff’s Office well for approximately 8 years before being retired from service.
