10/19/2020 - Four Sheriff’s deputies with the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office were recognized this past Friday night by the Oklahoma Sheriffs Association (OSA) for their exceptional performance, acts of heroism and ultimate sacrifice.  The awards were presented at the OSA’s annual conference and awards banquet which was conducted on Friday, the 16th at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center in Norman, Oklahoma.

Fraudulent Social Security Calls

10/15/2020 - Fraudulent Social Security Calls - Canadian County Sheriff’s Office, Criminal Investigation Unit received a complaint today from a victim that they had received a phone call from 281-769-2926 claiming they were from Social Security and that their Social Security number had been violated and blocked. Investigators ran a check on the number and found that it was from call center located in Texas. Investigators followed up on the number and found this is fraudulent call center and they have no connection with Social Security. In the follow up investigation background information indicated there was a number of suspects placing calls from this call center. If you get a call from this number do not answer, block the number, and disregard any messages from them. No Federal Agency (IRS-Social Security) will call you unsolicited

10/07/2020 - The Canadian County Sheriff’s Office has been holding a quantity of jewelry as found property for several years. It is believed this property was taken in a burglary or several burglaries. By some of the markings on the jewelry it may have been stolen from a business. Sheriff’s Citizen Posse scheduled for Orientation Training

9/23/2020 - Canadian County Sheriff Chris West announced earlier this summer that he was forming a Sheriff’s Posse, and developed a link on his office website to take applications.  Within the first 24 hours his office received over 500 online applications, many of which lived outside of Canadian County, and some from people even outside of Oklahoma.  Since that time, West and his staff have worked through the applications, trimming it down to only Canadian County residents.  Those people were recently sent an Email from the sheriff’s office containing a registration link to attend one of five Citizen Posse orientation training sessions.

9/18/2020 - The Canadian County Sheriff's Office was proud to host the FBI-LEEDA Command Leadership Institute September 14-18, 2020. Officers from numerous agencies attended the training. Those attending from the Sheriff's Office were Communications Supervisor Cyndie Bowers, Lt. Kevin Johnson and Major Ross Reuter. The FBI-LEEDA Command Leadership Institute is a dynamic, intensive and challenging 4 1/2-day program specifically and uniquely designed to prepare law enforcement leaders for command level positions. This week Major Ross Reuter completed the "trilogy" of the FBI-LEEDA classes. The Canadian County Sheriff's Office is set to host the FBI-LEEDA Executive Leadership Institute November 2-6, 2020.

8/24/2020 - On Friday August 21, 2020 investigators of the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jack Reed, 39, of Piedmont for possession of child pornography. A tip was referred to Canadian County Sheriff’s Office by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation’s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit regarding Reed possessing contraband images of children. This tip originated from Dropbox administrators when they conducted an audit of Reed’s account and found over 30 images and videos of child pornography. The images and videos were of children both male and female under the ages of 10 engaged in sexual abuse with adults.

8/21/2020 - Canadian County Sheriff’s Deputies and a former Detention Officer were recognized by the Oklahoma Sheriffs & Peace Officers Association. The men received award’s at the OSPOA’s annual training conference for acts of heroism. The OSPOA conference and awards banquet was conducted in Shawnee at the Fire Lake Grand Casino and Resort Hotel.

Truck Driver Arrested for Soliciting 14-year-old

8/17/2020 - On August 15, 2020 investigators with the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office arrested James Visotski, a 35-year-old truck driver from Stuart, Oklahoma, for attempting to pick up a fourteen-year-old female at the Flying J truck stop in Canadian County for the purposes of having sexual intercourse.  The investigation began in May, 2020 when Visotski reached out on social media to an undercover deputy, believing she was a fourteen-year-old female living in Canadian County.  Visotski developed dialogue with the girl,  and then made and carried out plans to travel to Canadian County and pick up the under aged girl.  Visotski’s intentions were to take the girl on a three month cross country road trip, where he could have sex with the under aged female all across the country.

FRAUD - Sweetest French Bulldogs

6/23/2020 - A Canadian County resident reported to the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Unit that they had responded to an internet website identified as sweetestfrenchbulldogs.com and had ordered a French Bull Dog puppy from the website after communications. The website person indicated that upon receipt of $600.00 they would ship them a 11week old puppy, and that they were located in Wylie, TX. They also stated that the shipping was included in that price. This is a Fraud and the victim has been unable to get anyone from the website or phone number to respond.


Sheriff makes Drug Bust on I-40

6/12/2020 - Sheriff’s Deputies with the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office made the arrest of a North Carolina truck driver after he was stopped along Interstate 40 near Radio Road about 1:30 a.m. on Monday, June 8th.  The driver, identified as Irvin Rodriguez, 31, of Wake Forrest, NC was taken into custody for drug smuggling after being stopped for driving off the roadway. A Sheriff’s drug dog alerted to the presence of illegal drugs under the bed inside the sleeper compartment of the Semi-tractor.


SHERIFF FORMS POSSE

6/09/2020 - Canadian County Sheriff Chris West announced this week that he’s looking for volunteers to serve on the Canadian County “Sheriff’s Posse.”  While traditional posse’s of the Old West were used to chase down and apprehend outlaws, West is more interested in volunteers who would be willing to assist the Sheriff and his deputies in a broad range of missions, including in times of local crisis, or state of emergency.
