11/06/2020 - Citizens are getting calls from scam artists portraying themselves as members of the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office. The scam relates to threats of arrest unless the victim goes and purchases a Money Pak card. The scammer will have the victim provide the numbers off of the card as payment to avoid being arrested. The phone numbers appearing on the victim’s phone shows the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office phone number, but the suspects are using tools to spoof their numbers to pretend to be law enforcement. The Canadian County Sheriff’s Office nor any Law Enforcement Agency would have you pay for a bond/fine/or fee to avoid jail over the phone. These matters would be handled in person through formal meetings, not with a Money Pak or Green Dot card. The Canadian County Sheriff’s Office has responded to multiple complaints regarding this scam and ask you if you receive a call or think you may have been scammed please contact the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office to report the matter.
