On Friday August 21, 2020 investigators of the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jack Reed, 39, of Piedmont for possession of child pornography. A tip was referred to Canadian County Sheriff’s Office by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation’s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit regarding Reed possessing contraband images of children. This tip originated from Dropbox administrators when they conducted an audit of Reed’s account and found over 30 images and videos of child pornography. The images and videos were of children both male and female under the ages of 10 engaged in sexual abuse with adults.
Before the search warrant was executed, Reed was arrested at a traffic stop near his house. During the traffic stop, Reed was told about the search warrant for child pornography. Once Reed was told he had a medical incident which required paramedics to evaluate his situation. Reed requested to be taken to the hospital via ambulance and then was told he was under arrest for possession of child pornography. A Canadian County Sheriff Investigator followed the ambulance transporting Reed and sat with him in the emergency room since Reed was under arrest.
After Reed was transported to the hospital, Investigators then executed a search warrant at Reeds residence. Once inside the residence multiple electronic devices were collected as evidence. Investigators transported these devices to the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office for a forensic examination.
Once investigators began a forensic examination on Reed’s cellular phone, multiple images of child pornography were seized. These images were of females between the ages of 12 to 15 years of age. All of Reed’s electronic devices are being forensically examined, and expected to provide evidence in Reed’s child pornography activity.
While Reed was in custody and receiving treatment at Mercy Hospital, Reed told the investigator the child pornography on his Dropbox account was his and he put it there. Reed said he did this because he was curious. Reed explained he used apps KiK and WeChat to download child pornography. During Reed’s statements he was not inebriated or under the influence of narcotics.
“It really concerns me that a grown man would be so curious about having sex with kids that he would download photos and videos to watch,” said Canadian County Sheriff Chris West.
After Reed was released from the hospital, he was transported to the Canadian County Jail, where he was booked on one count of Possession of Child Pornography. Investigators will also present additional charges to the district attorney’s office. Reed has since bonded out of jail, his bond was twenty-five thousand dollars.
