The Canadian County Sheriff’s Office will be having its annual law enforcement memorial service on Tuesday May 28, 2024, at 10:00.  The memorial service will be conducted on the east side of the Sheriff’s Office near the Courthouse entrance, where the memorial stone is located.

The Deputies and their families being remembered are Deputy Sam Farris 1894, Sergeant Gary Garrison 2014, Lieutenant Shirley Lanning 2020, and Deputy Justin Baxter 2022.

At the conclusion of the memorial service, the Sheriff’s Office will present a first-time award, known as the Deputy Sam Farris Exemplary Service Award, which is presented to a Canadian County Sheriff’s Office Employee for exemplary service to the citizens of Canadian County.  Sam Farris was the first Canadian County Deputy to lose his life in the line of duty, which occurred in 1894.

Sheriff West is inviting the public to be present in remembrance of these Deputies who gave their lives and to recognize the first Deputy Sam Farris Award recipient for exemplary service.
