Canadian County Sheriff’s Deputy Jose Tayahua-Mendoza, 46 of Mustang, OK was injured around 8 a.m. this morning when a vehicle veered off the Interstate and struck a vehicle the Deputy had stopped along I-40 and Garth Brooks Blvd in Canadian County. Deputy Mendoza was transported to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, where he has been admitted.  Mendoza is in stable condition and sustained arm, leg and foot injuries.  Mendoza began working with the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office in May 2022.

“This was a horrific crash and Jose could have very easily been killed.  We are so grateful for all the support of first responders and the medical team who have provided excellent care for him.  Everyone at the sheriff’s office appreciates the prayers on Jose and his family’s behalf,” said Chris West, Canadian County Sheriff.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and can provide details of the collision.
