Canadian County Sheriff Chris West and members of his staff attended the Oklahoma Blue Light Ceremony service on Sunday, November 5, 2023. The Oklahoma Blue Light service to Honor all of Oklahoma’s fallen law enforcement officers is held every year, and conducted at Oklahoma’s Law Enforcement Memorial, located on the west side of the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety headquarters building in Oklahoma City.
Earlier this year, the sheriff’s office dedicated a newly established Canadian County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Memorial, which is located between the Canadian County Courthouse and the Sheriff’s Office, alongside Highway 81. The new memorial was made possible through public donations, and honors the memories of Deputies Sam Farris and Justin Baxter, as well as Sergeant Gary Garrison and Lieutenant Shirley Lanning, who all sacrificed their lives while serving the citizens of Canadian County.
